In a workshop in the magical realm of Furdrobe, the Fairy Dogmother and her fairies were busy preparing for the next collection, and everything was going very well. Well, apart from one thing - the silks, the silks she didn’t yet have. For this collection, she needed some very special animal prints, directly from the plains of the Serengeti. She reached into her basket of enchantments and pulled out a stack of silky scarves, each one glowing with its own special hue. These were no ordinary scarves, but magical ones that would absorb the patterns of whatever they were draped over.
She knew one special pup who would embrace the adventure without hesitation, and she called upon her good friend, Prince Louis - a stunning white Maltese whose fur was as white as the snow-kissed hills of Canada where he lived. With a wave of her wand, he appeared before her in a shimmer of light, and soon after, he set off for the Serengeti with the enchanted silks tucked neatly into a little backpack.
When he arrived, he gazed in awe as the Serengeti unfurled before him like a golden dream; vast, wild, and teeming with untamed beauty. He watched the patterns as the animals ran across the sunlit plains. Bounding forward, he ran after them, flinging the scarves this way and that, but the animals just thought it was the most marvellous game of chase and galloped off with glee, leaving poor Prince Louis in a whirl of dust and silk. Clearly, this was not going to work. Exhausted, he sat beneath a baobab tree and packed up his things. How on earth would he be able to get them to stay still long enough to drape the scarves over them?
As he pondered, a tiny fairy fluttered out from a hollow in the tree. She hovered around him, her eyes twinkling with curiosity and asked what he was doing. When he explained, she let out a laugh and told him to follow her, because she knew what to do. They headed towards the animals, and when they were close enough, she signaled for him to wait. He watched in wonder as she fluttered her wings and flew over the animals, releasing a fine silver mist. This was Dream Mist, spun from the Serengeti moonbeams and twinkling stars. As it settled over the creatures, their movements slowed. Their eyes shut, their breathing calmed, and one by one, they slipped into a peaceful, dream-soaked sleep.
The fairy beckoned Prince Louis over, pressing a finger to her lips in a quiet hush. Carefully, they unpacked the scarves, and covered the sleeping animals — the zebra dozed in the grass, the leopard lounged in her tree (the fairy had to do that one herself), the crocodile nestled among the reeds, the elephant snored gently beneath the sun and the giraffe was curled beneath a tree with her calf. The animals slumbered on, wrapped in dreams and silk. When they awoke, they shook off the scarfs and wandered on - none the wiser, their silent stories shared in the wefts and weaves of the magical scarves. Prince Louis gathered up the scarves and thanked the fairy before making his way back to the Fairy Dogmother, who was waiting patiently for her silks.
The Fairy Dogmother was delighted with the zebra stripes, leopard spots, crocodile scales, elephant wrinkles and honeyed diamonds of the giraffes. Together with her fairies, they got to work straightaway, creating a collection that was beaming with crystals and the magical silks of the animals of the Serengeti.
The sparkliest bow, she fastened around Prince Louis’ neck, naming it ‘The Monarch VIP Prince Louis’, in honour of the brave little prince who had been on such an exciting safari adventure with all these wild animals and returned the silks with such wonderment. The Fairy DogMother said “You maybe a Prince but you have the brave heart of a King and you will always be my King of Bling!”
And the collection? Why, it was called Serengeti of course, for it carried the heartbeat of the land of magical creatures itself.
Furdrobe, because every pet deserves to sparkle.
