The Tale of BellaDonna and the Lavender Fields of Provence
In the island paradise of Hawaii, lived a Yorkshire Terrier named BellaDonna. She was completely adored by her two devoted dads, who insisted (quite correctly) that she was not just a dog, but a fashion icon. And she, of course, agreed. But even an iconic life of admiration could not keep destiny away forever…
One evening, as BellaDonna lay upon a velvet cushion, a faint scent of lavender drifted through the open window, a scent entirely out of place. A whisper followed, and within it she heard the request of the Furdrobe Fairy Dogmother: to gather the magical crystals of Provence, shimmering with the essence of lilac blooms and their soft green leaves. As the scent began to grow stronger, it swirled around her, lifting her gently, and she found herself being carried on the fragrance itself, until she landed in the rolling hills of Provence, where the world stretched out before her in endless waves of lavender.
As she bounded through the fields, she soon realised, to her disappointment, that they did not reveal their secrets easily. She lay down, exhausted, wondering what to do, when she heard a gentle rustling approaching through the lavender. Picking herself up, she watched as a small French bull dog emerged from between the stems, his fur the colour of sun-warmed stone. His name was Olivier, and he was the one who tended to the fields. “Enchanté, mademoiselle… you seem a little lost,” he said. She explained her mission and her frustration at not finding any of the crystals. Olivier was delighted to help, for he knew the land in ways no map could show, and he was well acquainted with the fairy bees, after all, he was a local.
As he guided her along hidden paths, she noticed tiny golden-winged bees drifting between the blooms. “They are not ordinary bees,” he explained. “They gather the essence of the lavender, and when the moment is right… they leave something behind.” As if in answer, one of the bees settled upon a bloom. She watched as golden dust fell from its wings before it lifted away, and there, nestled on the plant, something glowed; a crystal, lilac and green in hue. Together, they followed the bees, gathering the crystals that were left behind.
Somewhere between the golden hours and violet skies, the scent of lavender grew stronger, and began circling BellaDonna once more, lifting her gently into the sky and carrying her towards Furdrobe. She whispered her thanks to Olivier as she drifted away.
The Fairy Dogmother was delighted. And with a wave of her wand, she set the crystals into the waiting bows, each one catching the light like a memory of the lavender fields. The most radiant of them all she placed aside, gifting it to BellaDonna. And thus, she proclaimed that the collection shall be named Provence, for it carried the magic of the lavender fields within it.
